Welcome to Oxford Reading Buddy. If you are registered on Oxford Owl, or have a subscription to Read Write Inc. Phonics, Read Write Inc. Spelling, Nelson Handwriting, Numicon Online, Oxford Owl eBook Libraries, Essential Letters and Sounds, Floppy’s Phonics Online and Oxford International Primary, you can use your existing username and password to access Oxford Reading Buddy. This is your Oxford ID.

Your First Steps

Creating your school account
The teacher who purchased Oxford Reading Buddy for your school will be the Organization Administrator and the first member of staff invited. If this is you, you will receive three emails: a welcome email, and two emails relating to your organization’s account.
The second two emails will confirm the addition of the Oxford Reading Buddy subscription to your organization and prompt you to sign in. Follow these steps to create your school account.

  1. Look out for an email with the subject line Oxford Reading Buddy: You have been added to [school name] as an Organization Administrator. Click on the button Sign in now in this email.

  2. Read and accept the terms and conditions and click Update my account.

  3. Oxford Reading Buddy has now been added to your Oxford ID. Your next step is to create your school account on Oxford Reading Buddy. Click Get Started.

  4. Fill in the form to register your school on Oxford Reading Buddy. Click Continue.
  5. Check your details and click Register the Organization.
  6. Your school has now been added to Oxford Reading Buddy, and you have been added as Organization Administrator. Click Continue.
  7. Sign in to Oxford Reading Buddy using your email address and the password you chose when you registered.

Next steps

Oxford Reading Buddy is separate to Oxford Owl for Australian and New Zealand customers and the two services fill different roles.

Oxford Reading Buddy is a whole school digital reading service that includes eBooks, Coaching eBooks, comprehension quizzes, reporting and data.  It is designed for use by students (and their parents), teachers and schools. A whole-school subscription is required to use Oxford Reading Buddy (after any free trial period).

Oxford Owl is in essence an online repository of teaching and learning materials resources which accompany Oxford’s resources to help teachers get the most from our teaching programs, student books, student workbooks. It is designed for use by teachers and is free.

Oxford Owl includes free teaching resources for some of the series that are included on Oxford Reading Buddy.

For example, the following resources are available for Oxford Reading for Comprehension:

  • Comprehension activity sheet for all guided reading texts within the series
  • Graphic organiser templates for use in the classroom
  • Oxford Wordlist support, including wordlists for every guided reading text and guidance on how to use the Oxford Wordlist in the classroom.
